Abstract
A world of polycrisis requires multilateral, transnational, and interdisciplinary cooperation to help solve pressing societal problems. Against this background, this section examines the origins, operations, outputs, and outcomes of international organizations (IOs) in the early 21st century—continuing a section that featured successfully at ECPR since 2016. As detailed below, panels share a substantive theme (e.g., the design or performance of international organizations), involve a particular group of actors (e.g., external stakeholders, international financial institutions, or organizations in the Global South), or are defined by a particular approach (e.g., political sociology or text-as-data). Together, these panels will cover diverse policy areas—development, environment, health, security, or technology—and actors engaging in international organization at the global, regional, or local level. We explicitly encourage theoretical, methodological, and empirical diversity of submissions to reflect the depth and breadth of research on international cooperation and IOs. We invite contributions from scholars of any discipline, including (but not limited to) International Relations, International Political Economy, Economics, Public Administration, Organizational Sociology, and Global Public Policy.
