Abstract

Deliberative policy analysis has not been alienated in the non-Western contexts anymore. There is a rise of deliberative practices in policy domains in such contexts as a part of democratization from below. The practices are primarily found on the local scale, where laypeople still have a space of freedom to cultivate public policy to serve their demands and handle their life struggles. This panel pays particular attention to learning from emerging practices in non-Western contexts, where innovative methods are incorporated into deliberative policy analysis. It also aims to grab the common challenges those practices face as they usually operate within a weak democratic system and complex social hierarchies.
