Recent developments in artificial intelligence (AI), and in particular the rising popularity of large language models (LLMs) and generative AI, such as ChatGPT and Gemini, create new opportunities and challenges for both the academic discipline of political science and the practice of politics. With an exciting panel of political scientists, but also representatives from computer science and the corporate sector, we will have an open panel discussion about these challenges and opportunities. The primary focus will be on the practice of academic research in the discipline, but will also touch upon implications for politics and public opinion more generally. How could and should we as political scientists respond to these rapid new developments, in our research and our public engagement?
