Abstract

Contemporary democracies are witnessing shifts beyond traditional models of political representation, raising questions about the inclusivity and adaptability of representative institutions. This panel explores diverse models of representation, from dual political representation and geographic representation to the role of descriptive representation in fostering local engagement. Papers analyse how mainstream parties have appealed to social groups over time and how political parties engage with citizens abroad. By examining evolving modes of representation, this panel contributes to a deeper understanding of how representative systems can better reflect and respond to the needs of increasingly complex and diverse societies.
