Abstract

This panel takes an in-depth look at two new books in the field. The first provides a comprehensive analysis of women’s political behaviour across Latin America. It examines gender gaps in participation, political attitudes, and representation, situating them within regional political and institutional contexts. The second challenges the idea of populist radical right parties as inherently male-dominated. Focusing on party grassroots in India, Italy, and Sweden, it shows how women play a central role in PRR party organisation and mobilisation. Together, they form an example of how the field of gender and elections is expanding to consider how gender influences political behaviour beyond the USA and Europe, and challenging long-held assumptions about the behaviour of both parties and voters.
