Abstract

This panel examines how LGBTIQ+ individuals and communities confront, negotiate, and resist structural inequalities across diverse sociopolitical contexts. Bringing together research grounded in queer geography, childhood studies, political behaviour, intersectional analysis, and the study of disinformation, the panel highlights the multiplicity of strategies through which marginalised groups respond to hostility, exclusion, and hegemonic norms. Papers investigate how queer and feminist practices reconfigure rural domestic spaces into hubs of community-making and political organising; how LGBTIQ children articulate agency, resilience, and forms of everyday resistance within educational settings shaped by adultist, heteronormative and cisnormative logics; and how queer people of colour challenge the symbolic façade of “queer utopias” by exposing the racialised inequalities that persist beneath progressive legal regimes. Further contributions examine the political consequences of discrimination, showing how lived experiences of stigma depress political participation and reinforce exclusion, and assess how far-right disinformation campaigns attempt to reshape public attitudes toward LGBTIQ rights, while testing the effectiveness of corrective interventions.
