Abstract

Over the past decade, the populist radical right (PRR) has increasingly become an international and transnational phenomenon. Not only do PRR parties now cooperate internationally more than ever in fora such as the European Parliament, but they also accompany their defence of national ‘peoples’ with claims to represent a transnational ‘us’ versus a transnational ‘them’. The proposed panel sheds light on these trends. Its contributions use both qualitative and quantitative approaches to examine international and transnational mobilisation at different levels, from the online sphere to the European Parliament to intercontinental events like CPAC. The panel thus provides novel insights into the main actors and issues engaged in cooperation across borders, as well as its implications for liberal democracy.
