Abstract

This panel examines various aspects of gender and politics in Southern Europe. The papers investigate the gender gap in voting behavior from an intersectional perspective, if and how party competition between mainstream and radical right parties impacts party agendas on gender, the degree to which gender quotas alter committee dynamics in parliament, and gender differences in pledge fulfillment by ministers. The papers include evidence from several Southern European countries, including Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece and Cyprus.
