Abstract

Recent crises have forced us to confront questions of trust in and authority of science as well as the boundaries between science and politics, where conflicts over knowledge are becoming as common as conflicts over interests and ideology. In the current political environment it is crucial to expand our knowledge of the factors influencing citizens’ trust in science and expertise. How is expertise generated and legitimated and what tensions emerge between technocratic governance and democratic authority? How does inclusiveness and transparency of knowledge sources influence the legitimacy of evidence-based policymaking? Those are just some of the questions posed in this panel.
