Abstract

This panel explores how democratic innovations are shaped, enabled, and constrained by their political, institutional, and historical contexts rather than operating as universally transferable models. Drawing on empirical cases from different democratic settings, the papers examine how local institutions, social conditions, historical legacies, and political contestation influence the design, functioning, and outcomes of participatory and deliberative practices.
