Abstract

This panel adresses issues of local governance. The concept refers to a relatively polycentric system in which a variety of actors from different levels of government and/or spheres of society are engaged in local public decision-making processes. Local politicy develops in increasingly interwoven networks challenging traditional notions and modes of local government. The panel focuses both on the vertical dimenson of governance (implying the involvement of multiple layers) as well as on its horizontal counterpart (with a special focus on citizen involvement in new arrangements of governance).
