Abstract

This panel aims to explore questions related to the development and changes in the European foreign policy and practices, in particular regarding the EU external relations in the post-Lisbon era. The financial crisis in Southern Europe, the opposition to German austerity policy as well as the rise of nationalism cause nowadays-internal instability and threaten the dream of “Unity in Diversity”. This panel aims to discuss ways and options that could protect the European idea from falling apart due to provincialism and nationalism in order to discuss the EU’s capacity to respond efficiently to outer problems such as military threats, the need for energy resources or risks associated to immigration refugees. Theoretically, the panel would bring together papers that draw upon practice theory, organizational theory, Foreign Policy Analysis, and Europeanization in order to shed light of crucial aspects of EU foreign policy making.
