Abstract

This panel addresses questions of party structure and organisation, and their consequences. The actions taken by parties – either in the legislature or in the public – are highly dependent on the internal structure of those parties. It is thus important to open the black-box that is party organisation in order to fully understand the decisions made by parties. Why are some parties dominated by their leaders and others by their members/activists? What sub-organisations exist in parties and what rights do they have? How do parties finance themselves and how do they spend their money?
