Abstract

Representation is one of the most elusive notions in political theory and political science because it includes several different and often incompatible meanings. However the elusiveness of representation is usually under-theorized in political theory. What are the implications of the different meanings of representation in politics? How can a reflection on the semantics of representation help us theorize political representation? This panel aims to tackle the polysemy of representation through a comparative political thought perspective. It welcomes papers on the political implications of the different meanings of representation in western and non-western political contexts.
