An important element of political representation through interest groups is the way in which public opinion preferences are picked up by political elites. The link between public opinion and the policy agendas of governments has been extensively studied. However, the role of interest organizations as transmission belts of public preferences is not clearly understood. The papers in this panel shed more light on the link between the public and interest groups.
