Southern Europe offers a good laboratory for the study of eurosceptic change as in recent years, this traditionally pro-European region has found itself in the front line of the eurozone and refugee crises, whose management by the EU has been subject to strong criticism. The aim of this panel is to map the path of euroscepticism in Southern Europe over the past decade, attempting to discern how much change has taken place and how much of a threat this may pose to European integration. The papers in this panel offer individual country case studies, allowing useful comparisons across the region. They cast the spotlight not only on EU/IMF bailout recipient states but also on the revealing counter case of Malta, a country where euroscepticism has actually been on the decline.
