Abstract

What explanatory mechanisms can be used to understand the decision to engage in electoral fraud? Why do some incumbents decide to break the rules of the game while others abide to them? Which institutional designs are more prone to facilitate electoral fraud? Are socio-economic conditions also important to understand the appeareance of electoral fraud? These questions are the core subject of this panel. Papers dealing with these, or closely related, issues using theoretical approaches or large comparative analysis are welcome in this panel. This panel is sponsored by the ECPR Standing Group on Comparative Political Institutions.
