Abstract

Still politicians and political observers are wondering why Algeria has not yet been engulfed by the “Arab Spring” phenomenon that has swept Arab countries including its neighbors of Tunisia, Libya and Egypt during the last two years. Moreover, what are the apparent and hidden reasons that have so far left Algeria out of the mainstream of the ‘Arab Spring’ and how does one explain Algerians’ reluctance or lack of enthusiasm to join the movement?. Is there a semantic problem with the Arab Spring Concept and why is the Algerian Spring still delayed?. Scholars argue that there two main hypothetical conditions for an Arab Spring to flourish in Algeria: 1- the first one, will intervene peacefully as it has a popular basis when voluntarily the generation of the revolution withdraws from power voluntarily 2- the second alternative will be a violent and confrontational one, it will oppose different generations as political changes will take place outside the existing political institutions. In sum one may ask if Algeria is an exception or just an illusion?. 3- So, one way or the other, there will be ultimately an implication on Algeria, but kind or types of it?, what is its degree and influence?, there are the questions to be met in my paper?. In my paper, I will try to provide some answers to the case of Algeria and how the media is dealing with the question
