Abstract

Concerning youth’s political representation there is a clear territorial division among the ’old’ member states of the European Union (where arenas for youth involvement in political life are numerous and it is the weakening social anchoring of these institutions that has negative effect on youth participation) and the ’new’ member states where after the abolishment of former structures of the youth sector the main question is how to establish adequate structures for youth involvement. Compared to the practice of organizations in ’old’ member states what are the main differences concerning their effect on political participation on young people of similar organizations in ’new’ member states? In a sub-region of Hungary, there exists an unique, novel form of cooperation among youth organizations. The analysis of this cooperation brings empirical evidence that youth advocacy organizations can increase political participation of young people.
