Abstract

The Paper looks to the parties of the Community of Madrid and the Community Valenciana, and considers the degree of integration of women at the highest levels of the regional assembly’s parliamentary groups. What form – using quotas or otherwise – does the changing descriptive representation of women take? And what role do women in the regional assembly play in substantively representing women’s interests? This longitudinal study of women in the regional assembly of the Community of Madrid and Community Valenciana will be based on research gathered between 1983 and 2015. The Paper will offer insight into both the degree and form of integration of women, and the role of quotas in the changing descriptive and substantive representation of women in regional politics.
