This paper, co-authored by Pasquale Annicchino and Kristina Stoeckl, gives an overview over Russian approaches to litigation in cases that touch upon issues of religious freedom. Apart from looking at the cases which involved Russia directly, we also analyse debates about pertinent cases inside Russia and among Russian legal actors. The paper is based on analysis of documents, judicial debates and interviews with lawyers and religious actors in Russia and in Strasbourg.
