Abstract

This paper reviews the literature on the presence and influence of peripheral elites in national political institutions. Drawing on different fields like History, Political Science, Sociology or Geography, it provides a state of the art about peripheral elites in Western European central states. Several aspects are examined, namely: access, integration, presence, representation and influence. By so doing, this paper provides a methodology for future studies in this field.
