Abstract

This presentation would cover contrasting patterns in energy transition in Brazil and South Africa. In the Brazilian electricity sector, the general picture is the kind of positive policy stability often envisioned - although it contrasts sharply with public and private determination to continue developed the oil and gas sector. In South Africa, the whole issue of energy transition is heavily politicised, with strong contestation leading to a stalemate in the sector.
