Abstract

Beauty bugs” of democratization and process of ways how to design liberal – democratic consolidation, is present in Eastern European countries politics and also in parliaments Considering nowaday turn on the east geopolitical border, the focus of this paper proposal is on Slovakia and its changes over time towards what EU connotation and what it may mean in the parliament and what it may mean towards general political situation in Slovakia. Winzen (2010) noticed that empirical analysis often aims on the parliaments itself more, rather than focus on importance of actors within. Mapping a long story of political party SMER-SD in Slovakian parliament/politics, and at the same time the role of the European Affairs Committee (EAC) and its Head for longer period, as a case study of this proposal, shall serve as an example of ambivalent understanding of values of the EU. The core of the data are based on speeches in parliament, minutes in the EAC and social/media expressions. This shall be proving backsliding within the Slovakian parliament and Slovak politics. Thus, proof of lesson learned “in time” days, whether “the more Europe matters, the stronger the arguments for MPs to engage in EU politics.” (Raunio de Wilde, 2018)
