Abstract

Starting from February 2022, the Ukrainian war has been influencing geopolitics beyond Europe. China is considered an instrumental actor in this conflict. Many studies have shown the dynamics of the "Chinese influence" on the issue. However, scant attention has been paid to the Chinese narratives in the Chinese world. This paper analyses the narratives of the Chinese media, which serve the Chinese diasporas in Europe, to identify the cultural, social, and political discourses behind these narratives and the political dynamics of the Chinese diaspora groups in the European local communities. This paper investigates what information and cultural interactions the Chinese diasporas receive on the Ukrainian war from the Chinese newspapers and media in Europe. Using strategic narratives as our conceptual framework, this paper analyses the content of two Chinese newspapers, Nouvelles d’Europe (歐洲時報 ) and Global Times (環球時報 ), that are widely read by the Chinese communities in Europe.
