Abstract

In a study on attitudes toward gender equality and culture/tradition in South Africa, we did two waves of a survey (2018 and 2022) that measures attitudes toward gender equality and inter alia women’s representation in government. South Africa has a 50% quota for women and currently has 45% women in government. Men often contest the quota. The findings of the research show a significant gender gap in women’s and men’s attitudes toward women’s representation in government.
