Abstract

Cecilia Josefsson is an Associate Professor (Docent) in the Department of Government at Uppsala University. Her research focuses on political institutions and representation with a focus on gender. Her recent book, Defending the Status Quo: On Adaptive Resistance to Electoral Gender Quotas (Oxfor Univeristy Press, 2024), received the 2025 Victoria Schuck Award, from the American Political Science Association (APSA) for the best book published on women and politics. Cecilia's research explores political institutions and representation from a gender perspective across diverse contexts, including sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and Scandinavia. She is currently a co-director of the FIIN
