Abstract

The primary focus of this paper is to illuminate the complexity of the feminist digital dialogue in Kuwait. In particular, it addresses the debate surrounding the effectiveness of the Abolish 153 campaign aimed at ending violence against women. The paper seeks to present various social, political, and theoretical implications and strategies while considering a holistic, intersectional examination of the campaign. I particularly emphasise the online ethnography approach to better understand the impact of social class on its narration and patterns of mobilisation. The presence of different feminist realities and the absence of minority voices from the local and national feminist landscape raise questions about the effectiveness of persistent dominance patterns in elite feminism, especially regarding its representation, alliances, and narratives. The argument presented in this paper sparks a broader debate within feminist analysis and online methodology, highlighting the necessity of a more intersectional approach in the contemporary feminist movement’s analysis of Kuwait. It contends that, beyond the complexity of the feminist situation in Kuwait and the vital diversity of feminist realities, the inclusion of other women's voices, such as those of tribal and stateless women, is essential in the context of ending violence against women in Kuwait.
