Abstract

Corruption in Latin America and the Caribbean has featured striking scandals and episodes of accountability over the last decade, yet flagship anticorruption efforts such as CICIG and Lava Jato ultimately collapsed amid politicization. While the 2024 CPI suggests little regional progress since 2012, its aggregate score can conceal shifts in specific corruption practices. This study assesses anticorruption progress in 33 LAC countries using the Multidimensional Index of Progress Against Corruption (MIPAC), which tracks change across 21 corruption dimensions.
