Abstract

The success of populist radical right politics has become one of the undertones of contemporary politics. Yet, while immigrants and immigration are among the main scapegoats for the populist radical right, scholarship still knows little about the potential compatibility of populist radical right politics and immigrant voters. Based on a probabilistic post-election survey with booster samples of immigration origin populations, carried out in Estonia after the 2025 local elections, we test whether populist radical right attitudes are as widespread among immigration-origin populations as compared to native respondents, and which factors predict PRRP support among immigration origin populations. The study contributes to a rapidly developing area of studies in migrant political participation studies, which suggests that populist radical right parties have a potential to catch up also with migrant voters, which may have significant long-term consequences on societal cohesion, immigrant integration patterns and prospects for (il)liberal democracy.
