Abstract

The migration policies implemented by democratic governments are conditioned by the dynamics of electoral competition, since the issue of migration (regulation of flows, social integration) is a key factor in winning votes and a particularly recurrent theme of political polarisation, which is highly schizogenic. Specifically, this contribution focuses on the migration policies of the progressive Spanish government since 2018, examining: (a) their continuity or break with the migration policies of the previous conservative government; (b) the consistency of these progressive migration policies with the largely conservative migration policies of the European Union; (c) the consistency of the progressive government's migration policies with the positions expressed by the governing parties in their electoral programmes and in their political communication through official accounts during the campaign.
