Abstract

Although both central and peripheral areas provide fertile ground for candidacys in regional and parliamentary elections, candidates from central and peripheral areas do not have entirely equal access to positions on the candidate list. This relationship has so far only been described at the municipal level. According to the results of this research, residents of peripheral parts of municipalities are much less likely to get on the candidate list than residents of municipal centers, even when controlling for the size of these parts. However, with the transition to a higher scale, other processes may play a role in creating these inequalities. The text will seek to answer the question of how the size of the municipality, its location (center/periphery), and the presence of local cells (or the presence of candidates in local elections) influence whether a candidate for regional or parliamentary elections will appear there. Data on candidacies in local, regional, parliamentary, and senatorial elections in the Czech Republic in 2016-2025 will be used for the analysis. The method of analasis is negative-binomial regression to work with counts of candidates.
