ECPR is taking a significant step towards an open future in political science research, through a new partnership with Cambridge University Press. From January 2026, ECPR will join forces with Cambridge to publish its distinguished portfolio of social science journals.

Cambridge University Press is the preeminent publisher in the field of political science, with an unparalleled list of books and journals. Cambridge has published our journal European Political Science Review (EPSR) since its launch in 2009 and from 2026 EPSR will be joined by three more journals: the flagship European Journal of Political Research (EJPR); European Political Science (EPS), with its focus on the profession; and the indispensable Political Data Yearbook (PDY) – a unique repository of interactive data. A fourth journal, Political Research Exchange (PRX), will join the Press in January 2028. Between them, our journals showcase the breadth and depth of political science in Europe and beyond.
Building on the success of EPSR and PRX, which are already fully open access, EJPR, EPS, and PDY will follow suit and become OA when they move to Cambridge. This ambitious move makes ECPR the first major political science association to offer its entire journals portfolio fully open access – a major step forward for the discipline.
ECPR has been at the forefront of fostering robust political science research and scholarship for over half a century. By partnering with Cambridge University Press and moving our portfolio to open access by 2026, we are reaffirming our commitment to this scholarship, to our global community, and to making research freely accessible to all.
We are excited about this transformative step and remain dedicated to cultivating a vibrant and dynamic field of study for generations to come.
This agreement with Cambridge University Press marks an epochal step for ECPR. Moving our journals portfolio to one renowned publisher – and making all our content open access – will greatly enhance ECPR’s reputation and visibility.
The move was a necessary step in adapting to a swiftly changing academic landscape, and we are confident it will empower our broad political science community to expand their networks worldwide through a strong, consolidated publishing outlet.
We are excited to have been selected as the publisher of ECPR’s suite of high-quality political science journals from 2026. This is a significant moment for both organisations as we make open access publishing in the social sciences a reality, opening up the very best new research to a genuinely global audience of students and researchers.
As political life in Europe and further afield becomes ever more challenging, the need for open conversations is more pressing than ever. We look forward to working closely with ECPR and the five journals’ editorial teams to ensure that the journals remain vibrant, engaging centres of research and debate over the coming years.
This open access partnership unlocks a significant body of cutting-edge political science scholarship for a vast and influential readership. ECPR and Cambridge University Press share progressive, innovative ambitions for the communication and dissemination of academic research. We are confident that our journals portfolio will thrive and develop under this bold new partnership.
