Call for Managing Associate Editor of European Political Science Review (EPSR)

We are seeking a dynamic political scientist with strong international networks and experience of journal publishing to join the editorial team of our generalist research journal, European Political Science Review (EPSR).

Catherine Moury will complete her term by 30 September 2025, so we are seeking a new Managing Associate Editor to join the journal from 1 October 2025.

About EPSR

European Political Science Review (EPSR) publishes high quality scholarly research in political science, focusing on the most important debates in the discipline and demonstrating the highest possible standard in conceptualisation, theorisation and methodology.

It publishes empirical papers based on qualitative or quantitative methodologies whose research is placed within context of larger (theoretical) debates in the discipline. The journal also welcomes conceptual and theoretical papers as well as contributions from the field of normative political theory.

The journal is not concerned soley with European political issues, nor is it conceived as exclusively for European scholars, publishing submissions dealing with global issues and non-European topics.

EPSR is a SCOPUS top 50 political science journal, with an Impact Factor of 2.5 (2024).

The current editorial team comprises:

About the role

The role is for a fixed contract starting 1 October 2025 – 30 September 2027, working closely with the two Co-Editors, Editorial Coordinator and the Publisher.

The Managing Associate Editor will:

  • Receive all manuscripts submitted to the journal and perform an initial assessment of whether they comply with the formal submission rules.
  • Assess whether a given manuscript fits within the EPSR mission statement .
  • Evaluate the academic quality of all commissioned and independently submitted articles.
  • Provide the co-editors with initial desk decisions, suggesting reviewers when necessary.
  • Contribute to new projects, developments and innovations designed to increase the reach and impact of the journal and respond to a rapidly changing scholarly publishing landscape.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to improving equality, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion in ECPR’s publishing and related activities.
  • Take an active part in the professional debate about trends and standards in political science journals.

You must be affiliated with an ECPR Member institution or have a commitment from your institution to join upon appointment.

Institutional support

The Editorial team is supported by a dedicated Editorial Coordinator (Gemma Pulley) who supports the peer review process and all aspects of the journal's day-to-day running, including social media and marketing, liaison with the copy editor, publisher and other ECPR departments.

>The successful applicant will receive an annual editorial fee and a fund to cover travel expenses incurred in attending meetings related to the journal.
