Rethinking Coordination between Humanitarian, Development and Peacebuilding Efforts

Leo is Head of the Italian foreign policy programme at the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) and editor of its English-language journal, The International Spectator.

He is also editorial director of IAI’s policy brief series IAI Commentaries, and of the two book series Trends and Perspectives in International Politics (published by Routledge) and IAI Research Studies (published by Nuova Cultura).

His research interests focus on Italian history and politics, sport and international relations and the impact of AI technology on research.

Leo holds a PhD in History from the University of Reading.

Daniela is Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Sciences, Roma Tre University. She is scientific advisor to the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) and editor of its English-language journal, The International Spectator.

Her research interests include IR theories and methodologies, international relations and contemporary politics in the Middle East, as well as EU and US foreign policy towards the Middle East and their role in conflicts.

She is the author of The International Dimension of the Israel-Palestinian Conflict: A Post-Eurocentric Approach and of numerous peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and edited books, among which, with Lorenzo Kamel, is The Arab Spring and Peripheries.

Eugenia is Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Bologna.

A former consultant at the World Bank (2001–2006), she is currently a Jury Member on ECPR’s Hedley Bull Prize for International Relations, and serves on the Steering Committee of the ECPR Standing Group on International Relations. She is an Executive Board member of the Italian Political Science Association (SISP).

In her research, Eugenia has investigated, among other topics, EU-World Bank relations with a focus on the effectiveness of coordinating multilaterals.

She is a founding member of the Global Governance Research Group in the UNAEuropa consortium, and serves on the Academic Board of Harvard-Real Colegio Complutense’s Global Governance Study Group. Since 2023, she has been a Program Committee member of the UNESCO-sponsored Development Collaborative Center on Coastal Resilience.

Current research interests include the evolution of complex approaches to development support in the new global context, with a focus on cross-policy and inter-organisational dynamics under the aegis of the UN-orchestrated Triple Nexus endeavour

Daniela is Professor of Political Science and International Relations at the Centre for High Defence Studies, National Defence University, Rome, and is the serving ECPR Chair (2024–2027).

She is also Visiting Professor of Political Violence and Terrorism and Civil Society and Sustainability at the OSCE Academy in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan and an Academic Board member of the PhD School at the European Defence and Security College (ESDC), in Brussels.

Before joining CASD in Rome, she was Associate Professor at the University of Catania.

Daniela is associate editor of the Journal of Contemporary European Studies, and, with Marianna Charountaki, is co-editor of the Springer book series Non-State Actors in International Relations.

She has authored and co-edited 11 books and more than 70 publications. Her primary research focuses on action and influence on global politics by non-state actors, both positive (civil society organisations and NGOs) and negative (organised crime and terrorism).

Daniela is a consultant to the EU Commission’s Radicalisation Awareness Network Policy Support, and to the UN Working Group on the Use of Mercenaries.

Christian is Professor of International Security at Dublin City University. He is also Professor of Policing and Security, as well as Director of the International Centre for Policing and Security, at the University of South Wales. In addition, he is Jean Monnet Chair, Director of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, and Director of the Jean Monnet Network on EU Counter-Terrorism.

He is currently Editor of the Journal of Contemporary European Studies.

He has published extensively in the field of European security, and collaborated with major international news outlets as an expert in security, migration and counter-terrorism.

Christian holds a PhD in International Politics from the University of Wales Aberystwyth.
