Organising Team


Academic Convenors

The academic programme is decided upon by the Academic Convenors (the member(s) of the Executive Committee with the General Conference portfolio), who are responsible for ensuring a good academic and geographical spread of Sections and Panels.

 

Klaus Goetz holds the Chair in Political Systems and European Integration at the University of Munich. He previously taught at LSE and at the University of Potsdam. He has held Visiting Professorships at Humboldt University Berlin, the University of Tokyo, the Institute of Advanced Studies Vienna, Hebrew University Jerusalem, and Sciences Po Bordeaux, and he was a Fernand Braudel Fellow at the EUI. Professor Goetz’s work focuses on comparative politics and public policy, with a special interest in the analysis of political time. He is currently engaged in two major research projects, both funded by the German Research Foundation, that examine budgeting in international organisations and resource mobilisation for international refugee policy, respectively. He recently co‑edited (with Ronny Patz) a special issue of the journal Global Policy on ‘Resourcing International Organizations’. He was local organiser of the 2009 ECPR General Conference in Potsdam and has been co-editor of the journal West European Politics (Taylor & Francis) since 2000.

Maurizio Carbone is Professor of International Relations & Development and Jean Monnet Professor of EU External Policies at the University of Glasgow. He has taught previously at the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, Duke University, Johns Hopkins Bologna, University of Rome Tor Vergata, and has held official visiting research positions at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, University of Canterbury in New Zealand, European University Institute, University of Cambridge, Sciences Po Paris, University of Cologne, and University of Bologna. Professor Carbone’s research is related mainly to EU external relations, particularly foreign aid and other development-related policies. He is also interested in European integration, international development, and Italy’s role in the international arena. He was local organiser of the 2014 ECPR General Conference in Glasgow and is a founding editor of the journal Contemporary Italian Politics (Taylor & Francis).

Local Organising Team

The local hosts work alongside the ECPR Events Team to organise the General Conference.

 

Piotr Sula has been an Assistant Professor at the University of Wrocław since 2005. He obtained his PhD from the University of Wrocław. During his doctoral Programme he spent three months at Humboldt University in Berlin continuing his research. He is vice editor of Polish Political Science Review. His research interests are concentrated on political parties.

Karol Chwedczuk-Szulc holds a PhD in political sciences and an MA in sociology and international relations. He is also an Assistant Professor at the University of Wrocław. Currently his research focus is primarily on EU-US comparative studies. He was a research fellow at the American University in Washington DC in 2015/2016. His latest publications discuss the potential of social constructivism in forecasting, EU-US comparative studies and the future of the European Union.

Agnieszka Makarewicz-Marcinkiewicz is an Assistant Professor of Political Science in the Department of Economic and Social Policy, Institute of Political Science, University of Wrocław. Her main research interests concern: sustainable development (the holistic paradigm, monograph: Determinants of social sustainable development policy. Syndicalism, corporate social responsibility, controlled economic growth, 2014); new social inequalities (monograph: Social inequalities on the way to sustainable development. The problem of social and economic policy, 2015); political economy (monograph: New Economy. Political determinants and social consequences, 2013); social investments. She has been publishing, i.a., in: Problems of Sustainable Development and International Journal of Sustainable Development & World Ecology

Michał Kuś has been an Assistant Professor since 2010 in the Department of Communication and Journalism (Institute of Political Science, University of Wrocław). His research focuses on media systems, with special attention to media control, ownership and deregulation, relations between media and politics and political communication. He is a project leader for the Polish part of the European Journalism Observatory project.

Jakub Grudniewski is Head of the Convention Bureau – Wrocław, a non-profit organisation which supports the meetings industry and promotes the city of Wrocław as a business tourism destination. His academic background in international relations and business law allowed the bureau to attract and manage various conferences, congresses and other events. Convention Bureau – Wrocław has been involved in the most important activities in the city such as the Polish Presidency of the EU Council, Wrocław Global Forum (2010-2016), European Culture Congress 2011, UEFA Euro 2012TM, European Capital of Culture 2016, European Film Awards 2016, the World Games 2017, IFLA World Libraries and Information Congress 2017, and many more.

   

 

Central Services Organising Team

The Central Services Organising Team are responsible for all administrative aspects of the conference before, during and after the event.

 

 

Rebecca Lock is the Events Manager and oversees all events.

Diane Towler is the Event Coordinator and deals with all administrative items, as well as liaising with the Academic Convenors and the Local Organising Team. Diane Towler will be attending the event and will be available in the registration area.
  Louise Soper is the Event Coordinator and deals with all administrative items, as well as liaising with the Academic Convenors and the Local Organising Team.
