Abstract

The first decade of the 21st century witnessed an expansion of both social and political inclusion in Latin America. Over the past few years, economic growth has declined, incumbents have been kicked out of office, and social protests have rocked the region. How should we as political scientists make sense of where the region is, and where it is heading? How are problems of polarization and populism manifesting themselves in individual countries, across the region, and how much resemblance do trajectories in Latin America bear to similar phenomena in other regions?
