Since the 2008 financial and economic crisis, the question of inequality in economic resources between individuals at the top and the bottom of distribution, in particular within liberal-democratic societies, has gained a new centrality, not only among scholars but also in the public debate. The current pandemic and its very unequal social repercussions have only reinforced the perception that the issue can no longer be ignored. One particular dimension of this larger debate concerns the influence of money on policies within liberal democracy. Another concerns the relation between unbounded economic inequality and equal opportunities. The panel hosts normative and empirical proposals on how liberal democracies should deal with this phenomenon
