The workshop on examining the processes of transitional justice (TJ) aims at addressing the research gaps between cases studies and systematical research to measure and analyze the impact of TJ measures. Its participants aim at developing those insights further by gaining a more systematic knowledge of TJ processes. These processes can be all together analyzed from a juridical, political, historical or moral perspective. Researchers interested in participating should show an interest in approaching the issue from a holistic and multi-disciplinary approach beyond single country studies and descriptive case studies – i.e. theoretically-informed analyses – in order to learn more about the inter-linkage of diverse mechanisms and conditions under which reconciliation after mass atrocity can be achieved, democratic institution building enhanced or otherwise societal transformation achieved. We are particularly interested in comparative and theoretically informed case studies that combine theoretical interest with the generation of systematic knowledge through a comparison of two or more countries. Furthermore we encourage participants to address to what extend TJ measures can impact democratic institution building and thus sustainable development.
