This panel explores the complex interplay between online platforms, societal attitudes, and political mobilization of marginalized groups. It delves into how evolving online governance affects the activism of feminist and LGBTQ+ communities in differing national contexts. The panel also examines the nuanced concept of 'likability' in political candidates, revealing how gender, race, and partisanship shape perceptions and voting decisions. Additionally, it investigates how intense social media usage correlates with regressive gender equality attitudes in Europe. Another focus is the evolution of masculine identity and cultural practices within the online 'manosphere,' utilizing computational methods to understand its discourse over time. Lastly, the panel addresses the paradox of increased tolerance for LGBTQ+ rights among heterosexual women, yet their reluctance to accept partners with gender-incongruent sexual histories.
