Economic and social adjustments due to changes in production and employment patterns, social inequalities and the pressures on the social services significantly shape the conditions for achieving social cohesion and creating a sustainable economy. Within this framework, the conditions for citizens' social and political participation are also re-defined. For instance, the transition to the digital economy creates the necessity for digital citizenship which will include the protection of social and political rights from new dangers. Therefore, studying – interdisciplinarily – these adaptations and challenges for modern societies as well as the creation of a differentiated political culture due to these adjustments in the economy, labour market, and, more broadly, in the socio-economic context, is the main aim of this panel.
