Abstract

Mixed methods seek to use quantitative and qualitative techniques intertwined within in a single research project. Proponents of this approach apply the fundamental principle that the researcher uses combination of methods that has complementary strengths and nonoverlapping weaknesses. One of the challenges here is to identify when and how qualitative and quantitative components simultaneously meet these criteria for a given research project. This panel will feature papers that assess the current state of mixed methods research in political science and consider methodological issues for advancement.
