The Standing Group on Citizenship is thrilled to present its Early Careers Lounge – a series of FREE virtual meet-ups for PhD students and early career scholars interested in citizenship, civic education, political participation, migration and other related topics. The series aims to create an inspiring space for regular exchange of ideas in an informal and supportive environment. In this session we will have the pleasure to host two lectures by wonderful speakers - Margaux Pyls and Arne Schrader. Margaux Pyls is a doctoral researcher at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and the Brussels research centre for Innovation in Leaning and Diversity (BILD). Her research focuses on citizenship education in compulsory education. Lecture: A systematic review of the role of schools in promoting equality in students' citizenship education Margaux's research interests include citizenship education, (in)equalities in citizenship learning practices and outcomes, open classroom climate and democratic school climate. Arne Schrader studied German, history and politics in the Master of Education programme for secondary school teachers. He is a PhD-student at Leibniz University Hannover and part of the AGORA Civic Education research group. Since 2022, he has been working as a research associate at the Medical School Berlin and the Vienna Democracy Centre. Lecture: Antiziganism as a subject of citizenship education. Exploring teacher's beliefs and their didactic strategies Arne's research focuses education on racism and antiziganism as well as historical-political education.
