Abstract

As social scientists turn their attention to immigration and citizenship regimes, the methodology of how such regimes are examined, compared and measured is of growing interest. New research in the field brings attention to classic social science concerns over the validity and reliability of measurement and applies these to the field of immigration and citizenship studies. Other scholars are interested in developing typologies of immigration policies to facilitate comparison across states, which face conceptual challenges of identifying underlying concepts along which to categorise such typologies. Concerns over comparability across states are central, as well as selecting the primary sources for the development of comparable data. These issues will be explored by a panel of researchers all engaged in the development of cross-national projects on immigration and citizenship regimes, which will also provide opportunities to showcase this recent research to the ECPR community.
