Abstract

This panel examines how the demands and practices of cultural restitution intersect with democratic values and global justice frameworks amid changes in the liberal international order. It will discuss the implications of cultural restitution on international relations and global political theory, specifically exploring how demands for reparative justice challenge and reshape established liberal democratic norms. The discussion aims to explore the potential of international organizations, social movements, museums, and cultural diplomacy in addressing these challenges, enhancing democratic processes, and promoting reparative justice within and between nations. By integrating restitution into broader debates on global political theory and international relations, this session seeks to assess its impact on international relations during significant geopolitical shifts.
