A significant introduction and institutionalisation of new ideas in the field of foreign and security policy has taken place since the late 1990s in Europe: the emergence of Common Foreign and Security Policy has been followed by European Security Strategy, EU crisis management operations and EU battle groups. This panel focuses on the impact of this development on national foreign and security policy: how (nation)states have been shaped by - and have been able to shape - the European level policies. Impact of other international organizations and the transnational ideas they carry can also be issued.
