Comparative Environmental Politics: Explaining Variations

51

Abstract

Environmental problems are very complex and diverse. To begin with, it is difficult to even define them. Threshold values and other standards are often debated, and finding objective measurements is just as complicated. One way of estimating current environmental policies is comparing them. By using a systematic comparative research design, it is possible to explain national variations in the success, and failure, of such policies. The panel therefore encourages systematic comparative studies for environmental issues. Although there is an emphasis on country comparison, papers that compare regions, policies and time points or periods may also be submitted. Comprehensive papers that compare large numbers of countries are particularly sought.
