Abstract

Education is central to the state and especially in training its future workforce, with the current higher youth unemployment across Europe education and professional training schemes becomes vital to prevent a generation being lost. However the politics of education is at times controversial as can be seen in the increase in tuition fees in UK higher education, indeed universities throughout the world are increasingly trying to attract international studies. Countries have adopted different educational systems which reflect their individual capitalist models. The papers in this panel provide comparative analyses to the politics of education, where the papers look at different elements of the educational system, and where the papers highlight the different political perspectives on education by analysing the interaction between political actors and the structure they live in. Overall, the papers contribute to our understanding of diverging national educational systems and the politics of education.
