Party Politics in France

227

Abstract

The panel will explore the implications of structural change for the French party system, and for the parties operating within it. Structural change is here conceived broadly. Thus submissions are encouraged which consider party and party system responses to institutional changes - such as recent electoral system reform. Similarly, papers exploring party responses to socio-economic change and evolving patterns of electoral behaviour are encouraged. Equally, papers exploring how changing structural environments have forced French parties to reconsider their communication methods, their organisational patterns and their political strategies would be welcome. Papers may be situated in broader comparative frameworks - such as the presidentialisation of politics in democratic societies, or the erosion of support for party politics in general, and mainstream parties in particular.
