Abstract

Interest representation at the European level has been the focus of extensive academic attention. Nevertheless, no existing theory can provide a comprehensive explanation of what is going on the interaction between organized interests and EU institutions. Moreover, recent developments such as the Kallas transparency initiative also need to be taken into account. This panel seeks to address a wide range of issues in EU-level interest representation, such as: • types of actors - structure, mobilization, etc. • the relationship between organized interests and EU institutions - access points, behavior patterns, etc. • theoretical background and methodology questions - how best to study interest representation at the EU level, what explanatory framework can be found, etc.
